چکیده
Abstract In the growing application field of electrowetting (EW), reliable control wetting behavior by an applied voltage is required over a wide temperature range. Despite rising interest EW, only few data are reported in literature on EW as function temperature. this paper, we investigate quasi-static response one most widely used hydrophobic materials, Teflon AF1600, range from 25 to 70 $$\,^{\circ }\mathrm{C}$$ ? C . The contact angle versus analyzed illustrate behavior. results good agreement with friction-adsorption model, which explains (CA) hysteresis temperature-independent friction-like force and temperature-dependent contribution liquid adsorption onto dielectric surface. EW-CAs show small asymmetry respect polarity voltage, might be due temporary reversible charge trapping layer. underline that different effects friction need taken into account predict CA any EW-based scenario. Electrowetting on Semiconductors
Applying a voltage difference between a conductor and a sessile droplet sitting on a thin dielectric film separating it from the conductor will cause the drop to spread. When the conductor is a good metal, the change of the drop’s contact angle due to the voltage is given the Young-Lippmann equation. Here we report experiments with lightly-doped, single crystal silicon as the conductive electro...
متن کاملTeflon-coated microfiber resonator with weak temperature dependence.
A temperature insensitive three-turn microfiber coil resonator (MCR) is demonstrated by embedding it in Teflon with opposite thermo-optic coefficient. The temperature dependence of a MCR strongly depends on the microfiber size which controls the ratio of thermal effect contributions from silica and polymer. Fabricated from a ~3μm-diameter microfiber, the temperature dependence of our MCR is com...
متن کاملElectrowetting on a lotus leaf.
Electrowetting on dielectrics has been widely used to manipulate and control microliter or nanoliter liquids in micro-total-analysis systems and laboratory on a chip. We carried out experiments on electrowetting on a lotus leaf, which is quite different from the equipotential plate used in conventional electrowetting. This has not been reported in the past. The lotus leaf is superhydrophobic an...
متن کاملTemperature-dependent phase behavior of polyelectrolyte-mixed micelle systems.
The effect of temperature on the phase behavior of a polycation-anionic/nonionic mixed micelle system, poly(dimethyldiallylammonium chloride)-sodium dodecylsulfate/Triton X-100, was studied over a wide range of surfactant compositions, ionic strengths, and polycation molecular weights using turbidimetry and dynamic light scattering. Soluble complexes become biphasic upon heating through either ...
متن کاملFrequency-dependent electromechanics of aqueous liquids: electrowetting and dielectrophoresis.
Electrowetting on dielectric and dielectrophoretic electromechanical mechanisms dominate microfluidic actuation in the low- and high-frequency limits, respectively. The frequency-dependent relationship between these two mechanisms has been clarified by the Maxwell stress tensor and a simple RC circuit model. In this paper, we report extensive height-of-rise measurements obtained with vertical, ...
